Good Morning.....

So the day started out alright. The usual "drag myself out of bed even though I could sleep for another 10 solid years but have to get to work at a normal time so I can get something done today" routine - shower, hair, makeup - you know the drill. I was greeted by a happily smiling baby - soooo much better than the other one I sometimes have to wake up in the morning - the one that rolls around the crib crying because I so rudely interrupted the best night of sleep he has ever had. (It must be something like that, right? Why else would my 17 month old son act that way when his wonderful, half awake Mommy comes in to greet him happily in the morning? It couldn't be because he is tired and 6:30 in the morning is too early for anyone to be up let alone us two normal people who like to sleep in - could it?)
Anyway, my day took a turn for the worse after I arrived in his bedroom. The happy baby was quickly replaced by the struggling, whining baby when I attempted to change his diaper. I don't understand his reasoning - I wouldn't want to have to sit around in a soaking wet diaper waiting for someone to change me - I'd be trying to take that sucker off!
Well, after that was finished, the happy baby did not again resurface until we made it to the car to go to daycare. On the way to the car I have to gather baby, baby stuff and work stuff and become a packhorse to get out the door. I ask him if he wants to "get the light switches" to which he replies with a wiggling whine of rejection. So I finagle out a finger and flick the switches. (Good thing since I have to use that finger to try to lock the house with the keys while holding everything). And we finally make it to the car where I can drop, er, I mean set everything down and stretch back into the upward stance of the modern homo sapien as opposed to the lumbering, bent posture of the hunchback of Notre Dame. Now I know there is probably a better way to get to the car - make trips perhaps? But I am stubborn and have found that this is the fastest way, not necessarily the most logical way to get to the car in the morning.
My son relents to being placed in his seat and today finds a small carton of goldfish crackers to be adequate entertainment for the ride to daycare. All is well on the ride and he is his happy smiling self again. Gotta love it. I breathe a sigh of relief that we made it there without having to reassure him that we are almost there and everything is ok. (My son is the only child on earth who does not like car rides, but that is an entirely separate subject!)
After saying my farewells I have to return to the car to leave the carseat for the day. I unbuckle it and grab it out to walk back to the house. On my way there, I notice a dripping feeling on my pants. I look down to discover that the MILK my sweet boy had spilled in his seat 5 DAYS AGO during an "I don't want to be in the car anymore" fit has still not dried. Not only has it not dried, but it has become SPOILED milk. So now my nice clean work pants have dribbles of stinky, clotted, week old milk running down them and I have to be to work in 10 minutes. Being the resourceful Mom that I am, I always have some sort of wipe or something in the car for messes.
This isn't one of the messes I was ever expecting to have. What kind of milk can be left in the open for 5 days and not dry out? I wonder if this should be something to look into to help preserve water or something......
Anyway, I use a few wipes on my pants. This effectively removes the curdles that are left on them, but the smell remains. On the drive to work I crack the window and pat my pants with wipes hoping to absorb it. No luck. I lay a few wipes over the spot on my backseat where the carseat had been sitting in case there is anything back there waiting to attack my nostrils when I am least suspecting. Perhaps the sun will beat down upon them and the seat will absorb a better scent. Chances are no, but it can't hurt.
After I get to my cubicle, I grab my nice smelling hand lotion to try to cover the scent. No good. So I scour the office for cleaning supplies of some sort and find what I was hoping for - Febreeze. Now I don't know if you have ever used this stuff, but it works, and yet doesn't. I sprayed it on my pants and got the result I was expecting. While it seemed to have gotten rid of the spoiled milk scent, it has been replaced by a cleaning agent. But after a quick sniff, I find that I now have a combination of sour milk, green tea scented hand lotion, and febreeze scents all coming from my pants. Lovely. Good thing I work alone in a pretty open space near the kitchenette area. maybe someone will heat something up for breakfast/lunch/a snack that smells stronger that I do.

So much for a good start to the day....I am counting the minutes till I can get home and into a shower!
